so young, so very very much to learn 1963
Steve in his prime: captain of the university Karate Team. ~

Here on a make believe trip to Tahiti (while remaining in his apartment in NYC)
...
this mode of travel was necessitated by being an impoverished graduate student.
On the side I was a cabbie in the city and got a PhD in Theoretical Physics.
This ex-mail truck was my vehicle which I used on wilderness adventure trips
such as this canoe trip in Northern Maine.
It had a cast iron pot belly stove in the back with a chimney out the roof.
The canoe riders are fellow adventurers.
~1971
Some later trips were more adventuresome such as this backcountry Telemark ski trip to the
Canadian Rockies. ~1993
My love of Mother Nature and outdoor adventures was the reason for major life
choices.
Meanwhile I worked for a Navy think tank (US) with some travel around the world
(including living a year in Japan) ...
but managed to spend most of my life in Maine.
I was a prof at the University of Maine for five years until I got tired of the
commute and admin (but not the students).

dubious). Christmas 2007
The skiing was tough but ... EXHILARATING ! !
Ridge on Denali in Alaska 2011
Did I ski it ... heck no! but I did fly by ...I would
only try to ski it if I was being sent to a nursing home.
Steve ... way ... way ... past his prime. 2011
In my retired (unemployed) life I have been reduced to delivering excess vegetables
from the raised beds to my neighbors.
From the picture you might correctly conclude that I do not have a tailor or a manservant to dress
me ...
But I give my more conventional neighbors something to smile ... or wonder ... about.
To keep myself overly busy I have been building a cottage on an island
... going slower each year ... hope I finish.
Partial Frame of Island Cottage I am building ... seemingly
endlessly. 2005
Click HERE to see the frame going up. I did
most of the building ... it is a pretty place to work.
