Sue Bailey
Obituary:
Susan
Spencer Bailey died at Canon Hospice on June 19th after a short illness.
Beloved daughter of Lucy Armstrong Bailey and sister of Elizabeth Ann
Bailey and brother of John Henry Bailey. She was the proud aunt of
Melissa Tokstad, John Bailey, Sara Minard and the late Julia Minard and
the great-aunt of Carson Tokstad. She was predeceased by her long-time
companion Carol Spirilo. She was born in New York City on February 16,
1944 and moved to New Orleans thirty years ago to work in the operating
room at Truro Hospital and later served as a certified operating room
technician at Hotel Dieu and University where she continued to work for
a month before her death. She was known for her ability to guess what
doctors needed before they knew it themselves, slapping the instrument
in their palm before it was requested. Although she grew up in the
suburbs outside New York City and then Boston, she became consumed with
a passion for Mardi Gras, the Saints and the LSU Tigers. Even with these
new enthusiasms she kept in close contact with friends from high school.
The Concord Babes met each year to celebrate a friendship that spanned
five decades. She was surrounded by loving friends and colleagues during
her last days and will be sorely missed. Memorial donations can be made
to the Jefferson SPCA, 4421 Jefferson Highway, Jefferson, LA, 70121. A
memorial service will be held at University Hospital in mid-July.
